The Garment of Bitterness

Don’t wear the garment of BITTERNESS, it does not match………

Defined - Bitterness - anger and disappointment at being treated unfairly; resentment.

“Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.” Hebrews 12:15

“Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.” Ephesians 4:31

We are admonished through scripture to refrain from a heart of bitterness.  Again, as mentioned in previous garments, this is an emotional outcry against others because of some type of disappointment.  The Bible warns against allowing this emotional state to take root in our heart.  Once we allow it to take root in our heart, there will be all kinds of issues springing up from this root of bitterness.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23).” We are admonished here to guard our heart, from bitterness, wrath, anger, malice and clamor (a boisterous outcry). Whatever we allow to enter our heart will ultimately determine our actions.  Bitterness is an emotional state, and can only be activated if we allow it.  It will certainly spring up from our carnal nature if it is not guarded against.

Again, being washed by the water of God’s word will elevate us from our carnal nature to operate from the spiritual nature as we should. Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus admonishing them to; “That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word (Ephesians 5:26). By this verse he is speaking to the Church (you and I).  The word will wash us clean from anything that will defile us.

Bitterness can be washed away forever! Do not wear this garment, it doesn’t match your life in Christ.  Your life in Christ is much more powerful and beautiful, and bitterness does not match your garments of praise, and worship!
